KazanForum 2025: Uniting Russia and Islamic World for Finance and Trade
The 16th Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum 2025, set for May 13-18 in Kazan, Tatarstan, is poised to revolutionize Islamic finance and trade. This global summit, launched in 2009 with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), will host over 80 countries, uniting business leaders, diplomats, and investors to strengthen economic, cultural, and scientific ties. With a focus on "Digitalization: A New Reality," the forum aims to drive sustainable partnerships.
Islamic finance takes center stage, with Tatarstan’s Islamic banking transactions doubling last year. The region leads Russia in halal industries, boasting over 100 halal businesses, including export-oriented firms. Trade with OIC nations surged by 30% in 2024, with Tatarstan contributing $5.9 billion—a 40% year-on-year growth. The forum will feature the first AAOIFI international conference in Russia, themed “Islamic Finance and Investment,” alongside the Russia Halal Expo and Islamic fashion festivals.
Afghanistan’s participation, showcasing local goods, follows Russia’s recent delisting of the Islamic Emirate, signaling deeper economic ties. Azerbaijan-Russia cooperation and the North-South Transport Corridor agreement are also key highlights, promising enhanced logistics and trade.
KazanForum’s vibrant cultural program, including cuisine festivals and youth entrepreneurship tracks, underscores its role as a bridge between Russia and the Islamic world. As Talia Minullina, Head of Tatarstan’s Investment Development Agency, notes, the forum’s motto, “Trust and Cooperation,” drives mutual growth.
