World's largest ever engineering education forum opens in Dubai.
Renowned experts from 300 universities in 73 countries to address latest
innovation, issues in engineering education at World Engineering
Education Forum (WEEF 2014).
Forum is a milestone in Dubai's development as a global center for knowledge exchange.
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, the World Engineering Education Forum (WEEF 2014), the largest conference on engineering education ever convened, is being held on December 3-6, 2014 at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
1,500 prominent deans, professors and students from 300 universities in 73 countries are attending the prestigious biennial event under the theme 'Engineering Education for a Global Community'.
The opening event was officiated by H.E. Elias Bou Saab, Lebanon's Minister of Education and Higher Education and H.E. Eng. Essa Al Maidoor, President of the Society of Engineers UAE and Director General of the Dubai Health Authority and featured keynote addresses by both dignitaries.
Hosted by the American University in Dubai (AUD), WEEF 2014 is being organized by the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES).The event is seen as a milestone in Dubai's efforts to strengthen its role as a global center for knowledge exchange, which includes leveraging the city's world-class infrastructure and connectivity to attract leading global congresses to host their events here.
"Hosting events of the magnitude of WEEF 2014 in Dubai not only promotes educational excellence in engineering internationally but helps cultivate world-class standards at Middle Eastern institutions by bringing cutting edge research and thought leadership to our doorstep," said Alaa K. Ashmawy, Dean, School of Engineering, American University of Dubai ."WEEF 2014 will add tremendous value to the field of global engineering education and will act as a platform for the exchange of ideas that will help shape the future of the engineering field as a whole," he added.
Commenting on Dubai's hosting of WEEF 2014, Hamad Bin Mejren, Executive Director of Dubai Business Events, a division of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and main sponsor of the Forum, said "Hosting WEEF 2014 in Dubai is a wonderful achievement as it encourages leading minds in the engineering field to share their expertise with their colleagues from the UAE and around the world. WEEF 2014brings together a number of prestigious engineering education events under one roof. It will include over 90 multidisciplinary sessions, bringing together the world's most renowned experts to address the latest innovation, advances, technology, issues and challenges in engineering education. In addition to the IFEES Summit, WEEF 2014 features the 6th Annual GEDC Conference, the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy (IGIP) 2014 International Conference, as well as the 10th Global Student Forum, in addition to a range of workshops and symposia by participating societies.
The forum, convening in the Middle East for the first time, is partnering with prestigious sponsors and exhibitors including Airbus, Russia's Innopolis University, Dassault Systémes and Total.
